New home builders have been given two months grace before the introduction of new measures requiring all new homes to include rainwater tanks.
Rainwater tanks will be compulsory in new homes in Wingecarribee Shire from December 1, instead of from October 1 as originally proposed. Wingecarribee Shire Council agreed to defer the measures to allow time to notify builders, building designers and the public of the changes to its Development Control Plan (DCP) 39.
Council is also seeking more information on appropriate tank size and plumbing for rainwater tanks.
The draft amendments to DCP 39 placed on public exhibition proposed rainwater tanks of a minimum capacity of 4,000 litres for new houses, and 2,000 litres per dwelling for new medium density development.
