MEMBER for Southern Highlands Peta Seaton has slammed the Carr Government for its arrogant and lazy response to local rail problems and refusing to address growth in the area and looming public transport problems.
Ms Seaton said she is angry that questions she placed on the Parliamentary Notice Paper concerning local rail upgrades have been dismissed by the Transport Minister in a one and a half line response.
"I asked specific questions about plans for the upgrading of the line from Macarthur to Moss Vale and Goulburn, looking genuinely for information," Ms Seaton said.
"I asked the Minister four detailed questions and received a one and a half line answer in reply to all questions.
"It's simply not good enough.
"I asked the Minister for a timetable for further upgrade work. I also asked for plans to straighten the track between Picton and Mittagong and when we could expect the southern rail to be electrified.
"The Minister's throw away line was that it was being 'progressively upgraded by the insertion of sleepers and new 60kg rail'.
"We already know that some track work is going on and commuters are aware of delays and relate stories of replacement buses that don't turn up.
"But they are putting up with those problems because we all want a better rail system.
"We want to know what is planned other than a few band-aids along the track," Ms Seaton said.
