Public invited to ramble through ten private Bundanoon gardens

19 Oct, 2009 08:53 AM
TEN Bundanoon gardens will be open to the public as part of the Bundanoon Garden Ramble this Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 24.

Visitors can stroll through the gardens from 9.30am-4.30pm each day and maybe even enjoy some Bundanoon hospitality while they are at it.

Several of the gardens, ranging from a “secret garden” to small town blocks to regular town blocks to small acreage, will be open for the first time.

“Some are relatively new and others are well established but, as always, gardens are works in progress,” organising committee member Graeme Whisker said.

“They will provide great interest for those who are expecting to enjoy a day or two in lovely places as well as those serious horticulturalists with a deep interest in cool climate plants.

“The enthusiasm and expertise of owners will be obvious.

“All will be very happy to talk with you, to share their personal enthusiasms and to answer your questions.”

Sculptures in the Garden, an extensive exhibition of contemporary sculpture is planned for one of the larger gardens.

An all-inclusive ticket ($15 per head for the package or $5 singly) can be purchased at the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall from 9am. Concessions are available.

Free shuttle buses will transport visitors around the township.

The Country Garden Market, with stalls in the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall, will be open during the Ramble as will an exhibition of craft and textiles behind the Bundanoon Hotel.

As usual, locals are encouraged to set their imaginations to work and create a scarecrow for their garden whether it’s in the Ramble or not.
