People have been imitating Wingecarribee Council staff

09 Feb, 2010 03:11 PM
RESIDENTS are warned to be on the look out for persons imitating Council staff to gain entry to private homes.

A resident from Colo Vale has advised Council that he received a knock on his door on Sunday from a gentlemen claiming he was from Wingecarribee Shire Council.

He wore a shirt with a "dodgy looking WSC logo" (waratah embroidered) and asked if he could come in to replace showerheads with water efficient ones for free. Thankfully the resident turned the person away.

General manager, Jason Gordon urged residents to be cautious.

"Council doesn't have a showerhead replacement program like this and we aren't door knocking," Mr Gordon said.

"In fact, Council officers who need to inspect properties or visit residents have Photo ID cards which are similar to a driver's licence.

"Each card includes a colour photo of the staff member, their name and an authority on the reverse side."

If residents are approached in a similar situation they should contact police to report the incident or call Wingecarribee Shire Council on 4868 0888 to verify the person is a staff member.
