A peace vigil held tomorrow at Bowral’s Corbett Plaza will be a time for people to draw support from each other in these times of world uncertainty.
Wingecarribee Shire councillor Larry Whipper and resident Peter Lach-Newinsky have organised the ceremony which will be conducted from 10am-12pm.
Members of the public can bring along candles, flowers, messages (signs) and/or poetry/words of peace and hope.
Cr Whipper said the idea is to support each other and to plant the seeds of peace and love as others throughout the world are doing.
“The collision course that the world seems to be on should lead us into a deeper reflection and of what really is important in our lives,” Cr Whipper said.
“According to John Donne the 17th Century poet ‘No Man (or woman) is an Island entire of itself. All religions tell us that everything affects everything else; this is the law of nature, of karma. All actions create reactions, we must reap as we sow”.
Cr Whipper said the world seems to be suffering very deeply at the moment.
“The recent attack on America seems to be sending some loud and clear messages to the world. Maybe it is time to re-evaluate our priorities,” he said.
Both Cr Whipper and Mr Lach-Newinsky believe that there is strength in people “coming together for a common cause”.
“Not only this but there is a real need for people to support each other through a situation like this one,” Cr Whipper said.
Cr Whipper finished by saying: “I am hoping that afterwards we will conclude the vigil by inviting some children to plant a ‘Children’s Tree of Hope’, which we can all nurture and care for on behalf of future generations of children.”
