There were fairies in Leighton Gardens yesterday - and pirates and princesses and wizards and hobbits - as a host of storybook characters turned Moss Vale into Storybook Town.
More than 600 children and teachers and 115 Moss Vale businesses took part in the Moss Vale Public School initiative to highlight the importance of reading.
A vintage car delivered the Mayor of Storybook Town Gordon Lewis, Storybook Town Chamber of Commerce president Geoff Hosey and Storybook principal Dennis Mudd to Leighton Gardens, where they were greeted by a crowd of excited children dressed as their favourite storybook characters.
Cr Lewis officially presented Mr Mudd with the giant red key to Storybook Town, which opened the door for the children to ask for stories from storytellers hidden in local businesses.
