YOU can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but can you say the same for older drivers?
More than 60 members of U3A Southern Highlands attended the “Seniors Travelling Safely” road safety course in East Bowral on Thursday.
The meeting was organised by Wingecarribee Council road safety officer Charmaine Cooper, who said it was vital older drivers retained their freedom to drive.
“It’s making sure older drivers are aware of their skills, and also their limitations,” she said.
“Growing older should never be taken as an automatic indicator of reduced driving ability.
“The course aims to give
older drivers information about how to determine whether they are driving safely, how to
continue driving safely and when to hand their licences in to the RTA.”
Ms Cooper said she sensed many U3A members at the meeting felt unsettled about the RTA’s new licensing arrangements, and she wanted to dispel such anxiety.
