Oh so lucky

A Moss Vale couple whose home was damaged in a fire on Tuesday night are urging other residents to install smoke alarms.

Michael and Yvonne Dahms awoke around midnight to the sound of the fire alarm and found the front porch of their Garrett Street home on fire.

Their daughter's fiance, James McGeoch, and a friend, Doug Nelson, helped put out the fire while another neighbour calmed Mrs Dahms.

The fire started on a lounge on the front porch of the house.

Although the front porch was burned, most of the house was undamaged.

But Bowral and Moss Vale firefighters who attended the fire told Mr and Mrs Dahms the house could have been destroyed if the fire had spread to the roof.
