Bowral Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Terry Oakes-Ash will nominate for re-election at the Annual General Meeting in March.
Following the announcement that local businessman Tony Springett will contest the position, Mr Oakes-Ash confirmed that he would continue as president for another year if required.
"Harmony is essential," said Mr Oakes-Ash. "We can't have an us and them divide in the Chamber."
Mr Oakes-Ash said succession planning was necessary and that is why there were two candidates for vice-president.
"They both have the credentials to be candidates for the job as president, but should spend one year in the VP role to learn the ropes.
"If I can help them in that role, I am happy to put in another year.
"If, however, the members prefer some other person as president, them I am willing to support that person as a committee member."
Mr Oakes-Ash said the strategic plan, based on the business and retention survey currently underway, would set the strategy for Bowral, the Chamber and its members.
"With financial assistance from DSRD, this is the most important project that this Chamber has ever undertaken and will have a bearing on retention and expansion of business, the master plan and other associated matters."
Mr Oakes-Ash said Mr Springett's policy was nothing new, but only an extension of the policy of the current president and executive.
Mr Springett has stated that his priorities would include re-establishing communication within the Chamber, encouraging members' input and streetscaping.
"Members have always been encouraged to put forward ideas which have been used by task forces to develop the ideas put forward," Mr Oakes-Ash said.
"Streetscaping has been an active matter, which has resulted in new bins and seats in Bong Bong Street and Corbett Plaza, with 14 seats being paid for by enthusiastic members.
"Meetings have been held with council officers, letters written and discussions held with the RTA to the effect that trees could be planted down the main street, but the Master Plan Committee has not pushed this matter hard enough.
