The new-look Bundanoon town centre has been officially opened after local businesses and residents were forced to put up with months of inconvenient, delayed works.
Wingecarribee Mayor Phil Yeo acknowledged the patience of the local community throughout the works, which completely blocked the main street off to all vehicles during part of the work.
"It was not without its difficulties, and I'd like to thank the shop keepers and property owners for putting up with a greater degree of inconvenience than they would have ever imagined," Cr Yeo said.
He said the $400,000 street upgrade was a tribute to the Bundanoon Masterplan Committee's close working relationship with council.
"They suggested using the local link to Bundanoon sandstone which looks fantastic and is a really nice touch," he said.
The street works first came onto council's agenda when Cr David Fairall drew attention to the poor drainage of the street, but it soon became clear there was a much bigger job to be done.
The street has been leveled, with steps from the widened pavement area in front of the Primula Café down to the road.
The road was resurfaced, and an outdoor eating area was provided in front of the café, bordered by a sandstone wall.
Cr Yeo said the Bundanoon street revamping completed the current council's plan to provide a major upgrade to each town's centre during its term; the outdoor eating areas provided in Bowral, Station Street upgrade in Mittagong and Argyle Street in Moss Vale.
