A Moss Vale family is preparing to bury their son, while another young man remains in Liverpool Hospital following Saturday's horrific car crash in Moss Vale.
Twenty-two-year-old Keith MacRae died instantly when the car he was travelling in slammed into a power pole on Arygle Street early Saturday morning.
The driver, 24-year-old Moss Vale resident Daryl Barton, remains in a stable condition at Liverpool Hospital with a fractured skull.
Police investigations have revealed the crash occurred as the Holden Commodore Sedan Mr Barton was driving approached the left bend near Kings Road and crossed over to the wrong side of the road.
The car then rotated anti clockwise before crossing back to the correct side of the road and running up an embankment where it hit the power pole.
Mittagong Highway Patrol Senior Constable John Kane described the impact of the crash as so forceful the front passenger wheel and back passenger wheel wrapped around to touch each other.
The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit has been called in to continue investigations into the accident, with local police concerned about a growing road toll which has seen eight people killed in car accidents in the Camden Local Area Command this year.
According to Camden LAC statistics, seven out of the eight people who have died in the region have been under the age of 30, and four out of eight of those drivers have been under the age of 26.
Although police are still unsure of the cause of the crash, Senior Constable Kane pleaded with young people to take even greater care with their driving.
"It's really quite depressing when you look at the age of the people who have been killed in crashes in our Local Area of Command for the year," he said.
"It's very disturbing and it makes us wonder how to get the message through to young people that they're not bulletproof and they need to drive safely."
"As a driver, every time you get in the car and every choice you make, you will be accountable for."
With local police force starting the second run of their Driver Education Awareness Program (DEAP) last Thursday, Senior Constable Kane said Saturday's tragedy was a timely reminder of the need for young people to become educated about the risks they faced when driving.
The MacRae family declined to comment to the News at the time of publication.
Keith Macrae's funeral will be held tomorrow, Thursday, at St Paul's catholic Church, Sutton Forest, starting at
