A Mittagong Chamber of Commerce proposition for space for a 10-pin bowling centre in the proposed marketplace development has received a favourable response from Woolworths management.
Wingecarribee Shire Council will hear arguments for and against the shopping centre itself at tonight's meeting.
Chamber president Charlie Johns said the feasibility and details of the 10-pin bowling centre were still to be determined, but Woolworths had agreed that it was a compatible use for the retail space it had set aside in the basement carpark.
Mr Johns said the bowling centre was good news for local businesses because it would help "stabilise" the number of specialty shops in the shopping development. Woolworths is planning for up to 30 specialty stores to be housed in the shopping centre, which has some local retailers concerned about the impact it could have on the number of shoppers in the main streets of Bowral and Mittagong.
Aside from the retail issues, Mr Johns said he was excited about the youth and family-oriented facility that the 10-pin bowling centre would offer the Highlands.
