Member concerned about changes

25 Apr, 2005 07:52 AM
Member for Gilmore, Joanna Gash has written to the Prime Minister to spell out her concerns about changes to the Medicare Safety Net and to propose another option.

Mrs Gash said the changes, as they stand, will affect a great number of people in Gilmore and the Australian Government should allow flexibility in the changes.

"I believe there is room to move and still remain economically responsible," Mrs Gash said.

In her letter to John Howard, Mrs Gash has proposed the $300 Safety Net threshold be maintained for concession card holders.

"Gilmore has a relatively low socio-economic background and raising the threshold to $500 for low income earners has the potential to cut deep in this community," Mrs Gash said.
