At its November 23 meeting, the council passed a motion to support Boral's plans to increase production at the mine so long as the company paid for an upgrade to Medway Road.
Medway residents were gutted by the decision, however, the matter will go back to the council today as three councillors have signed a motion to rescind it.
Crs Larry whipper and Jim Clark have been against the expansion from day one and Mayor Ken Halstead, who was absent when the November motion was passed, has put his signature to it as well.
A new proposal that will be considered if the rescission motion is passed stated that the council would support Boral's existing production levels of 220,000 tons per annum.
If Boral was to receive approval for an increase in production, then it would trigger a clause requiring it to "immediately construct a haul bypass road of Medway Village".
"They have been basically operating for all those years without really being scrutinised," councillor Larry Whipper said .
"Now the government is trying to call them to order and make sure that everybody has got the appropriate conditions applied to these operations."
While Wingecarribee Council is not the determining authority on the matter, its submission to the state government holds some weight.
