Man killed crossing Bowral intersection

10 Mar, 2010 08:50 AM
AN blind man was killed after being hit by a B-Double truck in Bowral yesterday afternoon.

The accident occurred just before 5pm on Station Street, outside the Witchery store.

Police said initial investigations suggest a truck with a tipper and dog trailer was stopped in Station Street, Bowral, at a traffic light intersection with Wingecarribee Street.

"At this point the pedestrian, attempted to cross Station Street and allegedly walked in between the truck's tipper and dog trailer," he said.

"When the traffic light turned green the truck drove away, unaware of the pedestrian."

The pedestrian, a 56-year-old local man, was struck and died at the scene.

The truck was stopped by witnesses in nearby Moss Vale Road.

The driver, a 49-year-old man, was taken to Bowral Police Station for questioning and mandatory blood analysis tests.

He was then interviewed by police and released.

Forensic investigators attended the scene and inquiries into the incident are continuing.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
