FOUR people on a single-engine Piper that was forced to make an emergency landing yesterday morning in Mittagong have escaped with minor injuries.
Police said the aircraft clipped trees at 10.55am after taking off from Mittagong Airport yesterday, and was forced to make an emergency landing in a nearby vineyard close to the Marist Brothers property on Old South Road in Mittagong.
“Four people were on board and were treated and assessed by paramedics at the scene,” a spokesperson for NSW Police Media Unit said.
“Paramedics said they suffered minor injuries and were transported to Bowral hospital.”
Captain of Mittagong Fire Station, Michelle Hatton, said the station received a call at 10.59 reporting the crash.
“The NSW Fire Brigade, NSW Rural Fire Service and our hazardous materials (HAZMAT) unit attended the crash site after being called,” she said.
“Our HAZMAT unit worked to decant the aviation fuel from the aircraft using equipment from Shellharbour.”
Police and air safety authorities were investigating the cause of the crash, the NSW Police Media Unit police spokesperson said.
