An L-plate driver had his licence suspended on the spot after being caught driving at 184kmh on Friday night.
Mittagong Highway Patrol officers were carrying out radar duties on the Hume Highway as part of operation Go Slow when they detected the Toyota Corolla allegedly travelling at 100kmh over the speed limit for an L-plate driver.
L-platers are restricted to a maximum speed of 80kmh.
Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver.
Also in the car was female passenger who was also the holder of a learner’s licence.
Mittagong Highway Patrol Sergeant Dave Black said that the highway patrol specifically targeted the four major factors associated with road trauma.
“Excessive speed, driver fatigue, drink driving and not wearing seatbelts or helmets.”
With more than 30 years experience as a police officer, with 17 years in highway patrol Sergeant Black said that he was not surprised anymore - disappointed, but not surprised.
“I don’t get shocked anymore: I get saddened, disappointed and cranky but not surprised or shocked,” Sergeant Black said.
