A former Bowral lawyer has been ordered to pay a total of $41,000 in fines and court costs for neglecting horses and cattle at a Sutton Forest hobby farm in 2004.
Julia Ruth McKay, 55, of Bungonia, appeared in the Picton Local Court on Wednesday on one charge of failing to exercise reasonable care to three horses and 13 charges of failing to provide proper and sufficient food to 12 horses and seven cattle.
Some of the horses were unable to walk because the lack of pasture and supplementary feeding had forced them to eat noxious flat weed.
McKay was charged after an RSPCA inspector, acting on a complaint, visited Penrose Club at Sutton Forest on October 5, 2004, and found the emaciated mares and cattle.
