Cr Nick Campbell-Jones will move to have a site at Mittagong removed from the list of properties to be reclassified for sale following confusion at a hearing on Tuesday over the location of the land.
Members of the public at the hearing at Mittagong Playhouse were told that land identified as part of Iron Mines Ovals was actually a block behind the Highlands Marketplace near the former sewerage treatment plant.
Cr Campbell-Jones told the hearing that council proposed to sell only a triangular-shaped section of the community reserve bounded by Highlands Marketplace and the creek. Highlands Marketplace blocks public access to the site.
Cr Campbell-Jones said the reclassification of the site would allow its sale to Woolworths at some time in future. Council has previously refused a request from Woolworths to donate the land.
However, residents at the hearing said the land should be removed from the list of properties to reclassify because its location had not been advertised correctly.
