It’s all apples at Tallong

04 May, 2009 12:59 PM
EVERYTHING was apples at Tallong on Sunday as the village celebrated its fourth Apple Day.

Tallong showed off its fresh apples, toffee apples and the best apple dishes local chefs could whip up at the annual festival to highlight the area’s orchard heritage.

Member for Goulburn Pru Goward, joining Member for Hume Alby Schultz and Goulburn- Mulwaree Mayor Carol James to open Apple Day, said after missing out on Tallong apples last year, she had learned to come early to be sure of arriving before they sold out.

As well as the growing crowds, there was another sign of the success of Apple Day.

“We have three jumping castles this year!” Ms Goward said. “That’s a sign of the demand.”

Ms Goward congratulated the Tallong Focus group on the success of Apple Day.

“You have turned what began as a family day out into a huge event that people come from all over to attend,” she said.

Mr Schultz also congratulated Tallong on their community effort.

The community had done a terrific job to promote Tallong - even scoring a mention from Ian McNamara on ABC Radio’s Australia All Over, he said.
