19 Mar, 2007 10:37 AM
Bowral's Darren Powell and his brother Glen took over the Powell Engine Company as directors after their father Brian, a mechanical engineer who invented the engine, died from motor neurone disease in July last year.

"Everything he ever did has basically been downloaded into my head," Darren said.

"I worked by his side on the engine for 15 years."

Darren, who is better known locally for his home-based film production company Shot to Pieces, took over the research and development while his brother Glen took on responsibility for intellectual property and patents.

Darren said for the last 15 years the company has been backed by a small group of private investors. The company secured its first customer last year – a Newcastle-based company called Airborne Windsports, which exports light aircraft to 20 countries.last week.
