HUME Coal will begin aerial survey work in the Southern Highlands next week which will continue for up to four weeks.
Project manager Dane Stewart said Fugro Airborne Surveys has been contracted to complete an aerial gradiometry, magnetics and digital terrain model survey.
"The survey is a low-impact exploration method that will provide valuable exploration data from across the lease area," he said.
"Survey results will help Hume Coal focus its future exploration drilling activities on key areas of lease, potentially reducing the overall drilling footprint."
The survey work will involve a series of aerial passes over the length of the lease area, for about four hours at a time, at a height of 120 metres.
Weekend flying will not start until 10am.
"The engagement of Fugro represents an opportunity for Hume Coal to gain a site-wide understanding of the geology within the Authorisation area with minimal impact to nearby landholders," Mr Stewart said.
