Horse virus dashes Olympic dreams

Elite eventer Peter Gillis' dreams of representing Australia at the Beijing Olympics have been jeopardised by the equine influenza (EI) virus.

Mr Gillis, a member of the NSW Institute of Sport Eventing Squad, had hoped to compete at the Adelaide International Three-Day Event on the weekend.

But the cancellation of the trials - the only Olympic standard competition of its calibre in Australia - has dashed Mr Gillis' hopes of qualifying.
