 Health plan strikes a nerve

Health plan strikes a nerve

29 Nov, 2005 04:11 PM
Member for Southern Highlands Peta Seaton fears services at Bowral Hospital may be downgraded under an area-wide healthcare services plan.

The as yet unreleased Healthcare Services Plan has struck a nerve with some local medicos, who have told Ms Seaton they are pessimistic about the future of local health care.

The Sydney South West Area Health Service (SSWAHS), like all health services in the state, is currently awaiting approval from NSW Health for its Healthcare Services Plan, which will shape the direction of clinical service provision until 2016.

Ms Seaton said she was concerned by the lack of public consultation in the formation of the plan and concerns raised by local medicos about the continuity of certain clinical services at Bowral Hospital.

According to information received by Ms Seaton in an earlier SSWAHS policy document, the Surgical Services Stream Clinical Services Plan 2005-2016, that a spokesperson for Bowral Hospital said contributed to the formation of the Healthcare Services Plan, questioned the viability of continuing certain clinical services.
