Group's big plans for Bong Bong Common

25 May, 2006 04:52 PM
Bong Bong Common could become the site of a Southern Highlands Botanical Gardens if Wingecarribee Shire Council supports a community group's proposal for an arboretum highlighting the region's four seasons.

The $1.8 million proposal is the result of six years of planning by Southern Highlands Botanical Gardens Inc, a group of eight local residents with a vision of a central park linking Bong Bong Common, Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve and Suttor Road Reserve.

SHBG president Tony Davis said the proposal would protect the green zone between Moss Vale and Bowral as well as the historic importance of Bong Bong Common, the location of the Southern Highlands' first white settlement and a gathering place for Aboriginal people.
