Governor-General here for Legacy

26 Nov, 2007 08:18 AM
On election day, His Excellency Major General Governor-General Michael Jeffery was throwing his support behind a charity golf day held at the Bowral Golf Club to raise money for Legacy.

The annual event of which the Governor-General has attended for the past couple of years, he expressed that this event was particularly relevant and that Legacy really came into its own especially in this current climate.

The golf day came one day after it was announced that another Australian soldier, serving in Afghanistan, Private Luke Worsley became the third serviceman killed in two months.

Organiser of the golf day John Jones said it was a fundraiser for Legacy.

“Legacy esentially assists the widows and dependent children of ex-serviceman and so we raise money to do that,” he said.

“All the money raised, including some donations that people make goes to the work of Legacy, it is also to promote awareness of what the organisation does,” Mr Jones said.

Legacy embraces both World Wars as well as conflicts in Korea, Malaya, Malaysia, South Vietnam, peacekeeping operations in East Timor, the war in Iraq and any death that is service related.
