HIGHLANDS band Shades of Silver is drawing on a wealth of talent and experience to provide a blast from the past.
But the true driving force of the five-man band is simply a love of music.
Formative members Brian Haydon and Dave Fox were members of a Bowral barbershop harmony group when they met about two years ago and teamed-up for a bit of fun playing rock and roll.
“Dave played the Shadows’ songs really well and that became the core of our music selection,’’ Haydon said.
The band gradually expanded to its current line-up specialising in a broad selection of hits of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, including classics from The Shadows, Elvis Presley and the Beach Boys.
Haydon said the name, Shades of Silver, was inspired by the older line-up of band members, who ranged in age from 58 to 66 years.
It is clear the band members have a strong focus on doing what they love and loving what they do.
It’s a formula that is gaining a loyal fan base with the band’s last performance to a packed house at the Highlands Golf Club.
The early success is not surprising considering the talented line-up.
Humble about his contribution to the group, spokesman and rhythm guitarist Haydon describes himself as a “part-time performer”.
