A TEENAGE girl was punched in the face on a train at Moss Vale on Australia Day.

The 18-year-old was assaulted while the train sat at the station at around 9pm.

The girl was punched a second time causing her to fall to the floor of the carriage; a commuter has intervened with the other woman fleeing the train.

The female is described as having a slim build, about 160cm tall, long brown/blonde hair and wearing short white shorts and a dark print top.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the area to identify the offender.
