Gas leak shuts Bundanoon

01 May, 2009 07:35 PM
BUNDANOON’S main street was closed for about five hours on Wednesday after Wingecarribee Council workmen nicked a gas line while making drainage repairs.

The NSW Fire Brigade unit from Bundanoon set up a 200-metre exclusion zone in Railway Street and Osborne Street while workers from gas infrastructure company

Jemena repaired the 63mm polyurethane pipe.

Jemema corporate affairs manager John Kingsley-Jones said the exclusion zone was established as a standard precaution.

Integral Energy was also contacted because an electric cable runs near the pipeline, he said.

Gas supplies were not interrupted and the repairs were carried out as quickly as possible.

The NSW Fire Brigade was called at 11.5am.

At the scene, they used fire hoses to disperse the gas.

After the repairs were completed, firefighters used gas detectors in the surrounding area, including the railway

station, to check that there was no build up of gases.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 4.40pm. A NSW Fire Brigade spokesman said there were no risks to the public.
