 Franklin claim rejected again

Franklin claim rejected again

10 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM

IT is back to square one for the Franklin family as Wingecarribee councillors agreed to move the sewer pipe under Greg Franklin's land if he agreed to drop any compensation claims.

General manager Jason Gordon said the council resolved in closed session at Wednesday's meeting to have "without-prejudice talks" with Mr Franklin in the hope of getting the issue solved by the end of next week.

Mr Franklin said he could not drop the claim because of the amount of money he has had to pay in legal and application costs.

He, therefore, cannot get a home built, despite a loan from an anonymous donor.

Can't we sack these miserable excuses of humans now?

You all disgust me. I loathe you. I think it's time I shut up shop and moved to somewhere else - a place where the air doesn't stink.

This sounds like blackmail to me.

Isn't there a law against it?

That poor family - what else do they have to put up with?

Hey Council, I thought you wanted people to live here. If this is how you treat people it is going to end up as a ghost town.

I just hope when you need help no one will, but then we will because we care!!!

OMG! How could the councilors do this?

A beautiful person steps in to help, only to see their kindness smashed, by the council.

Shameful.

Hey councillors - there is a saying about seeing someone on fire.

Well, if I ever see any of you on fire I wouldn't cross the street, and you know how it finishes.

Do us a favour councillors, move to Goulburn and ruin their community.

We don't want you here.

OK. I've calmed down a bit.

Still going to move. I really can't live in an area that allows people to be treated in the way council is treating this beautiful family.

A few observations; how can talks be "without predjudice" if an ultimatum has been made? "We will move the pipe only if you drop all claims".

In fact, how can there be any talks at all?

If my business were to do this I would be in breach of the trade practices act.

Also, hasn't council admitted liability by making the offer?

My heart goes out to Fiona, who I see in another comment has deteriorated to the point of hospitalisation.

Words escape me.

This council needs to be sacked, like Warringah Shire has had done to them more than once. The only problem is, we would probably end up with more of the same people involved. Anyone with high ideals would get the life sucked out of them by the dead wood firmly ensconced.

Don't give up, Franklin family.

The trouble is the council can see nothing wrong with their behaviour.

To them the Franklins are at fault and unreasonable.

They have totally lost sight of what is happening in the real world, mainly because their heads are well and truly stuck up their backsides.

The councillors should do us all a favour and resign now, and not stand again.

The damage you have caused in the past three years is more than enough and the longer you remain the harder it will be for the new incumbents to repair.

Jason Gordon, too, should be removed.

I bet not one councillor has sat down and talked with the Franklins.

I had a problem with council, specifically with employees behaviour.

I went to 3 Councillors, including the mayor, and not one would talk with me.

The GM just passed it down the line, right to the department I had problems with.

In the end I just gave up. How can these problems be fixed if no one will talk to us, the ratepayer?
