Frank hanging up his SES cap after 11 years

30 Dec, 2002 08:25 AM

After 11 years as the State Emergency Services (SES) local controller, Frank Ritchie is finally hanging up his cap.

Mr Ritchie officiallly stepped down from the prestigious position of local controller on December 20, passing over the reigns to newly appointed replacement Jason Robbins.

"It's emotional especially after 11 years of doing the job," Mr Ritchie said.

"It's going to take a bit of getting used to but it's getting better by the day."

Mr Ritchie said his decision to retire from the position was so he could spend more time with his family.

However, Mr Ritchie said he was not turning his back entirely on the service.

"I've been in the SES for the past 21 years," he said.

"And what keeps me coming back is the fact that I like helping people.

"So instead of being local controller I will step back into the unit as an ordinary member."

Mr Ritchie said his replacement was certainly up to the job and was more than capable of running the station.

"If he's prepared to listen and put time in then he'll do a good job," he said.

New controller and former Campbelltown team leader Jason Robbins said he was looking forward to the position and the challenge.

Mr Robbins said the Wingecarribee SES was calling for new members and that an induction day would be held at the head office located in Mittagong on February 25.

"We need new members," Mr Robbins said.

Residents interested in joining the SES ranks are more than welcome to attend continuing training held every Tuesday for two hours learning various aspects of rescue situations.

For more information about the organisation, contact either Mr Ritchie or Mr Robbins at the SES office on 487 12433.
