RENOWNED sculptor Bert Flugelman will unveil his sculpture in Corbett Plaza on Thursday to launch the 2009 Wine, Arts and Roses (WAR).
WAR, to run from October 31 to November 15, is part of Tourism Southern Highlands (TSH) strategy to boost visitor numbers by promoting the area as one of Australia’s key wine, art and floral regions.
TSH executive manager Steve Rosa said the tourism industry and Wingecarribee Council were working together to find ways to stimulate tourism and override the domestic slump caused by the economic climate and rising fuel prices.
“The combination of our magnificent gardens, emerging wine industry and the highly respected arts industry will provide visitors with another reason to visit the Southern Highlands following a weather-affected Tulip Time Festival,” he said.
WAR will allow visitors to rediscover Southern Highlands gardens when the roses are in full bloom, explore 30 studios, exhibitions and galleries and visit Southern Highlands cellar doors.
New events will include Art in the Heart of Exeter, Creative Canyonleigh, Seafood and Sauvignon, Selby and Friends National Concert Tour and the Arts Bundanoon Concert Series.
