Fire destroys house during blackout

27 Sep, 2006 08:06 AM
A Moss Vale house was completely destroyed by fire after a malfunction in a combustion stove's chimney set the house ablaze.

The four-bedroom timber house on Meryla Street was burnt to the ground in a matter of minutes after a fire took hold in the ceiling.

Owner Mary Kitson was at home preparing dinner on Sunday night while her two daughters, aged six and 13, were playing chinese checkers. Her husband was away in Sydney.

The house had been without electricity since about 11am, so candles and the combustion stove were on.
