Fifteen eateries showcase local culinary skills

The local food and wine industry is well represented in the South Coast Restaurant and Catering Awards for 2004, with 15 nominations across 10 categories.

Nominations were made through voting ballots published in the Southern Highland News and other regional newspapers.

Organisers said more than 800 nominations were received, with nominees chosen on the basis of the number of votes they received.

The restaurants and caterers will be judged over the next few months by a panel of experts, with winners announced on May 3.

Two local nominees made it into the formal modern Australian category; The Ivy Tudor Restaurant in Bowral and the Journeyman Restaurant in Berrima.

Capel's in Bowral will fight it out with the Highlander, Bundanoon in the informal modern Australian category.

In the Chinese restaurant category, the Golden Palace in Bargo will take on North Wollongong's King's Chinese Restaurant.

The Grape Vine, Kangaroo Valley and Bowral's Le Bijoux are both up for the best new restaurant award, while Mittagong's Vin Santo is the only local nominee in the Pizza Restaurant category.

Stockman's Steakhouse, Moss Vale has been nominated for best Steak Restaurant, Eling Forest Winery Restaurant for best restaurant in a winery, and Katers at Peppers Manor House in Sutton Forest for best restaurant in a resort.

The Fitzroy Inn, Mittagong and Berrima's White Horse Inn Restaurant have been nominated for the restaurant in a motel/motor inn/guesthouse category.
