Elvis has left the building

HAVE you seen Elvis?

Steve Coburn’s crooning dog sculpture has sat proudly outside the Bell Gallery in Berrima for 12 months, but a few weeks ago he was stolen.

The Mosman sculptor has since created a slightly smaller version that has been concreted into the front lawn of the gallery in the hopes he will avoid a similar fate to his predecessor.

“I could not believe someone would take him,” Bell Gallery director Meredith Stokes said.

“Children who visited the gallery loved him, as did I, so I’m so grateful to Steve for producing Elvis II.”

Ms Stokes first purchased Elvis during one of Coburn’s exhibitions, which featured a number of different sized dogs.

Despite extensive searching and calls for information he has not been recovered.

With the additional security measures of heavier concrete footings and pressure sensitive lighting it is hoped the new Elvis will have a long and happy stay at the gallery.

Anyone with any information about the missing original sculpture should contact Meredith Stokes on 4877 1267.
