East Bowral developments up for inspection soon

28 Feb, 2001 09:26 AM
New state-of-the-art developments currently on the drawing board for East Bowral will be open for inspection on March 10.

Wingecarribee Shire Council in conjunction with the East Bowral Progress Association will be exhibiting the development applications and plans for a new community centre and playing fields as well as a new road access linking Boardman Road and Old South Road.

“We have had open days such as the one planned for March 10 before,” Noela Duval, President of the East Bowral Progress Association, said.

“It’s a bit of a tradition here, established by the Association with the co-operation of Council.”

Energy-effic ient design using cross ventilation, solar energy and recycled material, is a feature of the new community centre.

When complete, it will be able to seat 85 people for various functions, meetings and events. The centre will also be the permanent home for the administration of the Family Day Care services for the entire shire and will have office space, a playroom and a training room, as well as a playground and car parking.

More than $3.8 million will be spent on the playing fields and link road project which includes essential and quite extensive drainage works as well as the provision of amenities and parking. This part of the project is funded by the Section 94 Developers’ Contribution and features sporting facilities such as two soccer fields, a tennis court, a basketball court, amenities block, 40 space car park and 3 bay bus parking.

“Drainage in the area poses a special engineering challenge which Council has overcome in the design by creating an attractive wetlands environment,” Council’s Director of Environment & Planning Ray Darney said.

Two basins will be made to catch excess run off and to retard the flow of stormwater.

A channel will traverse the site, simulating a natural creek system and the planting of native macrophytes in the basin area will encourage the regeneration of an ecosystem which attracts birdlife. Most trees will be retained during construction and additional trees will be planted to complete the project.

“Council̵ 7;s plans for East Bowral represent our commitment to making sure that, wherever possible, facilities are provided which keep in step with residential development,” Mayor Phil Yeo said.

“East Bowral is a quality residential district and the proposed facilities are of a high standard, reflecting the investment which residents have themselves put into their residential environment.”

“T he Association is very happy with the proposed developments and we urge all residents to attend and voice their opinions,” MsDuval said.

“We have had a positive relationship with Council for over eight years now and we want to encourage new residents to communicate with Council when opportunities such as this arise.”

Council staff will be on hand at the exhibition between 10am and 2pm on March 10 to discuss the proposals and to answer any questions residents may have.

“Community input is vital at this stage,” Mr Darney said.

“Residents will be able to make written comments on the facilities prior to Council making any final decision.”

Anyone requiring more information about the exhibition on March 10 should contact Jeff Lawrence at Council on 4868 0851.
