Drugs seized in dawn raids

26 Oct, 2004 03:48 PM
Police have charged seven Goulburn people and seized thousands of dollars worth of drugs and property as part of a major drug operation they claim has been operating from a Bradfordville home.

More than 60 officers from Strike Force Queenie converged simultaneously on Goulburn and district properties at 8am on Friday, acting on intelligence gathered mainly from listening devices installed in a Queen Street house over several months. Searches were executed at two Queen St houses and homes in Lagoon Street, Mulwaree Street, other homes in Goulburn and rural properties.

Police allegedly seized cannabis and drug equipment, $21,000 in cash, guns, cars, motorbikes, a jet ski, generators, televisions, electrical equipment and two properties worth more than $350,000.

Five of the accused appeared in Goulburn Local Court on Friday and were refused bail. Two defendants were refused bail on Saturday morning. No pleas have been entered at this stage.

Goulburn Local Area Commander Wayne Benson described the alleged drug operation, which the court heard had operated from a Queen Street address, as "a well organised syndicate aimed at dominating the local drug trade."

In court 23-year-old Scott Andrew Skelly, labourer, of Queen Street was described by police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Toole as the "mastermind" in a family drug operation, which also allegedly involved his brother, Christopher Peter Skelly (also known as Clark) and his cousin Matthew, and was knowingly supported by Scott's mother, Pamela June Clark, a friend Jennifer Diane Craig and Chris' partner, Jayde Primmer. Mr Toole said police would argue Richard Redman was a "major customer."

Reading from police documents tendered to the court Magistrate Rob Rabbidge said Scott Skelly had allegedly travelled to Adelaide carrying a large amount of cash to buy cannabis from an "up supplier". Police will argue this was for sale to the local market from his home and through "home deliveries".
