Doctors crisis for hospital

Bowral Hospital is facing a shortage of medical staff, according to one of its visiting medical officers.

Dr Clive Cawthorne, the chair of the Bowral Medical Staff Council, presented a paper recently on challenges of medical staffing issues at Bowral Hospital.

Dr Cawthorne, who also operates a general practice in Hill Top, said he believed there would be a gradual loss of support from GP VMOs as the present doctors grew older and retired.

And demands on Bowral Hospital would grow as the population of the shire increased. Populations are expected to grow by more than 10 per cent over the next decade.
