Dispute turns violent

28 Apr, 2005 03:50 PM
An alleged ongoing neighbourhood dispute turned violent when a house in Sunset Point Drive, Mittagong, was trashed over the ANZAC Day weekend.

The house was provided by the NSW Department of Housing and was occupied by Mervyn Murchie.

According to Mr Murchie's son Brendon, the house was attacked by a group of youths around 11pm on Saturday, April 23.

Mr Murchie said the windows of the house had already been smashed out when Mervyn arrived home from taking his nephew swimming in Wollongong.

"When Mervyn started driving into the driveway the youths came over to the car and starting kicking and spitting all over it," he said.

"Mervyn reversed the car, floored it and took off."

According to Mr Murchie, police arrived at the scene after being alerted by a neighbour that a house was being attacked.

"When we went into the house afterwards there was no furniture left; there was even cans of food embedded in the wall," he said.
