Deep regret over 29 job losses

30 Mar, 2006 01:55 PM
The managing director of engineering and manufacturing company Bradken, Brian Hodges, has expressed deep regret about the 29 workers made redundant at the Mittagong site last week.

"As I understand 29 employees have been made redundant, finishing up last Wednesday. They are both trades and non-trades workers," Mr Hodges said.

"The redundancies have come about because of the lack of new building work or facility maintenance required by outside companies."

Mr Hodges said the redundancies were unrelated to the Federal Government's new Work Choices legislation.

"This has purely been a market issue. Although it may not mean much for the company's national operations we are aware it is extremely significant for operations in Mittagong," he said.

"Unfortunately there is just a lot less work available at our Mittagong facility."
