Crystal Creek in Kangaroo Valley named top spot to visit

19 Mar, 2010 09:36 AM
KANGAROO VALLEY’S own Crystal Creek Meadows Luxury Cottages and Spa Retreat has taken out a national tourism award.

They were awarded the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism at the Australian Tourism Awards at the industry’s recent gala awards night in Hobart.

This was only the second time this award has been offered and the first time anyone has won this category in NSW.

Owner Sophie Warren said she was “delighted” to accept the awarded on behalf of her and her husband, who was overseas at the time.

“As a small family run business we think it is symbolic that Crystal Creek Meadows stood alongside other finalists who were major national attractions or international hospitality brand names,” Mrs Warren said.

“It demonstrates that small can be beautiful, be mindful of the environmental, and offer guests an indulgent five star experience.”

The award recognises travel operators who have made a significant commitment to sustainability by reducing negative environmental impacts and supporting local community and culture.

“In our view social-community values are perhaps the most important element about sustainability, yet least talked about,” Mrs Warren said.

“We love to promote the wonderful destination of Kangaroo Valley and to mindfully showing guests unspoilt attractions, which make staying in this beautiful part of the world a real break with rewards for guests, the environment and the community.”

Crystal Creek Meadows won the Australian Tourism Award for Hosted Accommodation in 2008 and received highly commended awards in 2007 and 2006.

The business also won a media-organised Weekend Tourism and Travel Award for a second year running.

Crystal Creek Meadows has four luxury eco cottages scattered across 16 acres and each has their own private garden.

They provide a range of their own hand made aromatherapy spa products, local indulgencies and a 1969 classic MGB to take to the road and enjoy the scenic drives around some of Austrlaia’s most beautiful countryside.

Creek Meadows shared the sustainable tourism award with last year’s winner The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway in Cairns.
