Councillors slam latest LEP delay

State Government procrastination that could delay final approval of the Wingecarribee Shire Council's shire-wide Local Environment Plan (LEP) until 2008 is set to become a State election issue.

Wingecarribee Shire Council will lobby candidates to take a stand on the issue after receiving advice that the Department of Planning is unlikely to approve the draft LEP in time to place it on public exhibition this year.

Council adopted the draft LEP and submitted it to the department in August and had hoped that it would go on display before Christmas.

But strategic planning manager Mark Pepping told council on Wednesday delays in the department meant the draft LEP could not go on display until 2007.
