Councillors elected to represent people

27 Nov, 2002 09:19 AM

Sir,

In response to Cr John Sherborne's letter 'Councillor happy to meet with resident', I feel he has missed the point.

Firstly, when I approached him he refused to meet with me during the construction of the cycleway, which in my opinion would have been a more appropriate time to discuss the process, privacy, loss of security issue and possible changes, etc.

Meeting when the project is completed, some time in the future, is pointless as by then it will be a case of "shutting the gate after the horse has bolted".

There were in total 10 points in my letter. Cr Sherborne has chosen to ignore eight.

My comment on being negative did not refer to the track itself but my question Cr Sherborne was, would you like your privacy and security destroyed in a similar manner?

All that was required was some rerouting of the track further away from houses, which was requested but it seems that drip lines around trees are more important than residents.

My wife and I look forward to meeting with Cr Sherborne after everything is completed. Perhaps he would let me know if that is likely to be before the end of 2002 or sometime in 2003?

As far as him not seeking confrontation, they are his words not mine. I believe councillors are elected to represent and help members of the community, not to treat them with arrogance and disdain.

Well, anyway that is my point of view.
