Council to trial three hour cinema parking

08 Aug, 2008 10:55 AM
WINGECARRIBEE Shire Council will trial three-hour parking in the Empire Cinema carpark for six months, despite recommendations from the RTA and council traffic committee that the time not change.

Traffic committee chairman Duncan Gair told council’s July 23 meeting that adequate carparking was available at the public car park in Boolwey Street, no more than 70 metres from the cinema, three-hour parking was available at Woolworth’s, no more than 150 metres away, and untimed parking was available at in the Station Street carpark, only 250 metres away.

Cr Gair said statistics showed that with three-hour parking, parking spaces would turn over once a day, compared to three times a day with two-hour parking.

“We have full-time rangers in Bowral to free up car parking - you can’t have it both ways,” he said.

Cr Gair suggested that council work with the cinema owners to promote the three-hours and untimed parking available close to the cinema.
