Mayor Ken Halstead has put forward the idea after receiving a letter from Canberra Airport managing director Stephen Byron who said he was committed to building a $140 million high-speed rail hub at the airport.
Mr Byron is requesting support for the Sydney-Canberra high-speed rail from councils along the Canberra-Sydney corridor.
"As the only unconstrained curfew-free B747 capable airport in NSW, we know the future of Canberra Airport is in servicing patronage in our region and incrementally providing aviation capacity to Sydney, which is why we are getting behind Premier Barry O'Farrell's drive for a high-speed rail to Canberra Airport," he said.
Wingecarribee Council has already said it was against building an airport at Wilton and resolved to support the "No Airport for Wilton" campaign.
However, not all councillors agreed with this position.
Cr Graham McLaughlin, also a Labor Party member, said the proposal by Cr Halstead to support Mr Byron's proposal was just "election grandstanding" and "NIMBYism" (Not In My BackYard).
"The scoping study has not even been done yet so how can we support this when we don't know what we're supporting," he said.
"Wilton is the best site for a second Sydney Airport and if it went ahead, we would get all the positives and none of the negatives.
"It would provide economic growth, jobs and tourisim and would be a bonanza for the shire.
"It's not true that everyone is against Wilton. I think there's only about 400 or so people in Wollondilly that are against it."
Cr Halstead's motion will be decided at today's council meeting.
