Concert aims to put the Highlands 'on the map'

29 Nov, 2005 04:13 PM
Centennial Vineyards is looking to put the Southern Highlands on the map like never before with its A Day On The Green concert in February planned to be the first of many such events held at the Bowral winery.

Centennial Vineyards restaurateur Mandy Murray, who has been working to get what is commonly referred to as "the older person's Big Day Out" come to the Southern Highlands for the past six months, said A Day On The Green would do wonders for the local food and wine industry.

Because A Day On The Green concerts are staged only in wineries, and because each event is widely-publicised across the country, Ms Murray said the concert, featuring hugely popular headline performer Missy Higgins, would promote the region as a food and wine destination like never before.

"You could not buy that sort of publicity," she said.

Centennial is expecting to attract around 6000 people to the concert, which has an impressive support line-up including Lior, Clare Bowditch and her band The Feeding Set, and Mark Sholtez.
