In a massive coup for organisers, NSW Police Commissioner Peter Ryan will open this year’s Moss Vale Show.
The show, held March 16-18, is being touted as the biggest ever, with an outstanding program of entertainment and exhibits throughout the three days.
Commissioner Ryan will help perform the opening ceremony at 3pm on Saturday the 17th with his wife and two daughters.
A spectacular Grand Parade will start proceedings, followed by a musical ride performed by the NSW Police Band and the NSW Mounted Troop.
“It’s going to be our biggest opening since 1984 when Sir Ninnian Stephen opened the show (Moss Vale’s centenary show),” Show secretary and Showground manager Phillip Minnis said yesterday.
“We have issued invitations to 145 guests and all but a few have indicated they will be in attendance, including local members and past presidents.
“It’ s going to be a grand opening, very structured and organised. It’s going to be something worth seeing, we’ve already got coaches from Sydney booked.”
Among the other highlights at this year’s Moss Vale Show will be the nationally acclaimed Centenary of Federation display and for the first time, Brian Harrington’s Pied Piper Show that features dressed up ducks.
“The Pied Piper Show was once looked on as entertainment for just children but it’s reputation for good, clean fun has grown to a point where show goers of all ages vie for the best viewing spots,” according to Show organisers.
“The wedding of Josephine and Malcolm (both ducks) dressed in their very finest is the funniest thing seen in years.”
Mr Minnis said Brian Harrington has performed as shows in all eastern states, including the capital city Royal shows.
He has also performed at nursing homes and for Camp Quality and other charities.
Pied Piper Show performances will be held on each day of the show.
Mr Minnis said the Centenary of Federation attraction will also be a major drawcard for all comers.
The display features memorabilia, photographs and machinery associated with agriculture, horticulture and industry in the district during the last 100 years.
“This particular display has been endorsed by the Centenary of Federation National Committee as one of their official events,” Mr Minnis said.
“It will be staged under a huge marquee and is a must see for residents and visitors alike.”
Other outstanding attractions at Moss Vale Show include the famous $1,000 Demolition Derby and $350 Moss Vale Holden Ladies’ Challenge on the Friday night and the giant 15 minute Bowral Bricks fireworks display on the Saturday night.
