The company sent out a letter dated August 23 to landholders in the vicinity of Ellsmore Road, Exeter where it began drilling on August 29.
The area is in the southern portion of the Hume's exploration permit and drilling was expected to take about 1-2 weeks depending on weather and access.
The drilling would occur between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
"We've given about one week's notice to nearby landholders and that will occur every time they do drilling on private land," a spokesperson said.
"The drilling will be on two properties then they'll move back into the forest to do some more bore holes then move to another private property towards the end of September.
Exploration drilling involves a truck mounted drilling rig to take bore hole samples which are then sent off for analysis.
"Once drilling activities are complete, we have the responsibility to rehabilitate the land in accordance with appropriate guidelines," the spokesperson said.
