Church has grave concerns about adult shop

24 Oct, 2007 08:11 AM
An adult bookstore proposed for Mittagong has met with opposition from local churchgoers.

The development application before the Wingecarribee Shire Council at the moment proposes the bookstore will trade under the name Adults Undercovers and be on the first floor of a store located on the Old Hume Highway.

The application is for the bookstore to sell adult books, magazines and costumes .

It will only have signage on the entrance doors.

Across the road is the St Stephen’s Anglican Church, which has a congregation of more than 300 people.

Senior minister Richard Mills, who only just learnt of

the proposed bookstore,

is very concerned.

"We have a lot of families with young children," he said.

"We feel that it is an inappropriate location opposite the church. We will be encouraging members of our congregation to write to council to voice their opposition," he said.

Mittagong Chamber of Commerce has written to council opposing the business in its proposed location.
