THEY rolled in on two wheels, four wheels, three wheels and more.
Over 1000 cars, trucks bikes and trikes, ancient and modern, from the conventional to the highly unusual, made the Highlands Motorfest at Chevalier College into a revhead’s heaven on Sunday.
Glenquarry resident Gwen Bullard’s unrestored 1929 Chevrolet, still running after 40 years hidden in an Aylmerton farm shed, stood out among the gleaming paintwork and growling engines.
Mrs Bullard, already the proud owner of a Ford Prefect, heard about the Chev from a neighbour who knew of her interest in vintage cars.
“A year later she rang and said ‘We’ve cleaned out the shed - would you like to come and have a look at it’, and I said ‘Yes, please!’” Mrs Bullard said.
“They drained the oil and the fuel, refilled it, and it started straight away after 40 years locked away in a lean-to barn.”
Mrs Bullard was delighted by Motorfest visitors’ response to her rare find.
“I was absolutely thrilled and so excited by the end of the day,” she said. “It certainly generated the crowds.”
